This week Leadership Anne Arundel turns 32 years old. LAA's Articles of Incorporation were signed on March 23, 1993. Last year we celebrated the 30th Anniversary of our 1st graduating class, the class of 1994. If you haven't watched the video we created for the 30th Anniversary, I hope you will take a moment (or literally, less than 5 minutes) to
click here to watch it and reflect on the IMPACT LAA has had on the community over three decades.
Through crises including economic recession and pandemic and through evolving City, County, State and Federal administrations, LAA continues to develop and nurture community trustees who improve the quality of life in Anne Arundel County by convening diverse stakeholders, bridging their divides, and facilitating resolutions for the common good. Our work is enduring and critical to the well-being of the community throughout Anne Arundel County.
As we make our way into our 4th decade, we endeavor to hold close those qualities that make our programs compelling while broadening our reach to welcome new opportunities and ideas around community leadership.
One such new idea, LAA's Annual Food (+ More) Collection grew out of the covid crisis. As I shared in
last month's blog, in the autumn of 2020, when our community longed to connect but faced restrictions on how we could gather and still stay safe, a member-driven service event was created to benefit the Anne Arundel County Food Bank and Feed Anne Arundel, a local initiative created by LAA FLG09 graduate Monica Alvarado to keep restaurants in business and people fed.
Click here to watch a brief video of the inaugural event in 2020.
Over time, the annual collection has evolved to add blood and clothing collection, featuring the Luminis Blood Mobile and, in years past, the Just One Sweater initiative created by Flagship graduate Lisa Seborowski Lutz (FLG07).
This year, we've shifted the collection from fall to spring and THIS SATURDAY LAA volunteers will gather at the M&T Bank - Annapolis Plaza Parking Lot (170 Jennifer Rd, Annapolis, MD) to collect FOOD (and other essential items) for the Anne Arundel County Food Bank, BLOOD for the Luminis Blood Bank, and new CLOTHES for the UM BWMC Emergency Clothing Closet.
This is the kind of initiative that grows from a network of community leaders with a passion to have a positive impact on the community.
Need a boost? Join us in the M&T Bank parking lot on Saturday! Simply DRIVE BY (you don’t even have to get out of your car!) and drop off a donation. (Details on what is most needed are
here.) I guarantee it will uplift your spirit to join with such incredible community leaders!
Moving into our 4th DECADE, let's celebrate 32 years of LAA and have a positive impact our community - TOGETHER!
See you there!
