The LAA community is hard-wired to care and contribute, positively impacting our community. Back in 2020, while we were reeling from early days of the COVID crisis, understanding our members desire to gather (safely) and help those in need, we kicked off the LAA Food Collection, benefitting the Anne Arundel County Food Bank and Feed Anne Arundel.
(If you’re not familiar with the event, click here to watch a brief video of the inaugural event in 2020.)
Since then the annual event has become a fan-favorite, collecting 2596 pounds of donations and $1500 for the Anne Arundel County Food Bank, 21 units of blood for the Luminis Blood Bank and nearly 1000 sweaters for Just One Sweater in November 2023. Click here to read the recap of the last Collection event.
In 2024, we learned that, while many folks are inspired to donate during the holiday season, the Anne Arundel Food Bank is in greater need of support in the springtime, so we shifted the event to the Spring of 2025.
The M&T Bank Team has compounded their support of the event year over year (bringing in 60% of the food collections at the last event) and this year, not only will they be hosting collections in their area branches over the next several weeks, they will be hosting the collection event on Saturday, March 29 from 10:00am - 2:00pm at their corporate office on Jennifer Road in Annapolis.
The Anne Arundel Food Bank will be joined by the Luminis Blood Bus, collecting blood and UM BWMC collecting new clothing for their Emergency Clothing Closet.
So, Who's the Best Class?
Here's where you come in! We're counting on our network of 1800 alumni to get the word out AND challenging Flagship and NLA Classes to join together in mini-collections in advance of the event with a commitment to bring the donations to the 5th Annual Food (+ More) Collection on March 29 between 10a - 2p.
Why not coordinate a mini-collection in your neighborhood or workplace and plan a class gathering the week of March 24 and see how much you can contribute as a team? Designate a volunteer from your group to bring your collection to the event and we'll weigh it to see which class has the biggest IMPACT!
Full Details on what's needed and how to support are available here. There's no need to register unless you want to sign up to volunteer at the collection on the day (directing drive-thru donations, sorting donations, etc.). Morning and Afternoon volunteer shifts are available.
This year's goals are:
AA County Food Bank
3000 Pounds of Food
300 Pounds of Non-Food (Diapers, etc.)
$2000 Cash Donations
Luminis Blood Bank
30 Blood Donations
UM BWMC Clothing Closet
500 Articles of new clothing
With YOUR HELP, we'll knock it out of the park!
