Bertina Nick NLA Flagship Scholarship Application

The Bertina Nick NLA Flagship Scholarship is awarded at the Tribute to Leadership and Graduation. It honors activist and community leader Bertina Larkins Nick and her lifetime of work in the county. Graduates of the LAA Neighborhood Leadership Academy are invited to apply for the Bertina Nick Scholarship below. It is the only full-scholarship available for the LAA Flagship program.

I understand the purpose of Leadership Anne Arundel and, if selected, will devote the time and resources to complete the program.  I understand that the commitment typically includes an orientation session, a mandatory opening retreat, topical sessions (maximum 2 absences accepted to graduate from the program), a closing retreat and a graduation ceremony.

In addition to session days I may be called upon to participate on a community project team that could require additional time outside of the sessions.

By checking "confirmed" below I agree to be bound by this commitment.

To confirm that this applicant has the approval and full support of their employer, including the time required to successfully complete the program, please include the name, title, email and phone number for the employer. (For applicants who answer directly to a board of directors, such as an executive director of a non-profit organization, please include contact for the board president or chair.)

Please Note: Program acceptance documents include a signature line for the employer.

Please describe one occasion (community, personal, or professional) when you had a vision of something to be achieved. For a current vision, what skills and resources do you need to make your vision a reality? For a past vision, what skills and resources did you employ?
Please describe a time when you have been engaged in a community project, initiative, cause or organization (professional or community) in a manner that has been fulfilling. The following questions may serve as a guide:

How have you contributed to the success of someone, a group, or an organization? In what ways has this involvement affected you?
What was your role?
How did you support or foster a common vision?
Please list the volunteer activities that you have performed that you are most proud of.
Please describe your reason(s) for applying to the Leadership Anne Arundel Flagship Program. What do you hope to gain? How will you apply what you learned and the experience you gained from the program?
